  • I've written and rewritten this post a dozen times, only to realise that my struggle to find the right way to say this is a perfect example...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why is it that so many women hesitate to call themselves 'creative', shy away from the dreaded 'self promotion' and fear sharing their work with the world?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The lovely Helen from @abookishbaker has opened up a conversation about this topic today and it has kept me thinking all day. Whenever I create something I'm proud of I try to work up the courage to share it, then I post it, and then message @unfinishedbookshelf while lying on the floor. As though occupying a strange space can protect me from the criticism I am sure will come (but strangely, never really does).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Helen has created a hashtag #tobravelyshare to tag your posts when you bravely post a blog, or a video, or a photo you worked hard on. You can follow it and support your fellow creatives who are struggling to find the courage to talk up their own work.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So... at the end of all that, what I REALLY wanted to share is that I have written a blog post to accompany my creative journal video. An entire year in the making, I am so proud that I was able to stick to a goal and create something really special. LINK IN MY PROFILE :D #beingbrave
  • Breakfast in bed yay or nay? I'm firmly on the YAY team! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Unfortunately my life is not the series of leisurely mornings I dream of, so whenever I get the chance to snuggle up with a book, some tea and plenty of pillows I seize it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had a wonderful weekend exploring Daylesford, Castlemaine and the Macedon Ranges from our lovely AirBnB, and I can't wait to share all the brilliant bookish locations I found with you properly!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Dark, twisted, funny and gripping, I loved this unusual literary/thriller/contemporary/slasher mashup. Have you read it or added it to your TBR?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My Sister the Serial Killer is told from the perspective of a woman whose younger sister does in fact appear to be a serial killer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've never read anything quite like it, that explores the bonds of family and asks what the line between forgivable and unforgivable is when it comes to people you love.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can't wait to hear Oyinkan Braithwaite speak about it at Adelaide Writers' Week, you can read about the other 9 books I think you should read from the program via the link in my profile. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
#gifted This copy of My Sister the Serial Killer was gifted to me by @simonandschuster with no obligation.

  • 10 Books from Adelaide Writers' Week you should add to your TBR (immediately)! Have you read any of these yet?

Because I'm cheeky, the other 5 are in a blog post ;) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Read all about them now via the link in my profile.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I LOVE reading through festival programs, even if I can't attend. I always discover someone I hadn't heard of, writing something that intrigues me. Do you do the same?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • “The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” ― Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I can't resist a secondhand book sale! Blog post about this one, held every Sunday at the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, coming up soon.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Read. This. Book. Poetry, power, parents, first love, friendships, siblings, sexuality, racism, and the male gaze. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This book covers so many important topics in such an engaging way. The book is written in verse, like a series of slam poems, and it works so perfectly balancing the plot and rhythm of the words.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you've read it let me know! If not, have you read a novel written in verse before?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
