  • If you love sci-fi read this. If you love character-driven stories read this. If you want to cry on public transport or fling your books across the room read this.

I've written & deleted a dozen captions. But I finished Iron Gold tonight & my thoughts are far from here, in space, with Darrow & Lysander & Lyria & Ephraim.

So all you'll get tonight is my heartfelt plea, read these books, & then lets talk about them.

Ps. Most of the items in this photo were from the special @illumicrate box, the first even book subscription box I have ever bought, my love for this series is so strong it overcame my dislike of accumulating 'stuff'

  • Do you often give (or recieve) books as gifts? Some of my favourite books are ones I recieved as gifts, like this tiny essay I was given for Christmas & read last week.

It's a beautiful meditation on the power and value of gifts, especially when those gifts are stories.

I had tears in my eyes by the final page, there was so much love and generosity in the pages. A vivid reminder to continue to give books I loved away and share them with those I love. I've made a pile already to share!

  • Sunday #shelfie of my work-in-progress bookshelves!

How do you arrange your shelves?
Mine are strictly seperated into Read and Unread, then I think they will be arranged roughly by genre/theme and edition, aka a librarian's worst nightmare!

If you're posting a #shelfiesunday please tag me, I'd love some bookshelf motivation to encourage me to finish arranging them!

  • "I refuse to feel ashamed and upset on a daily basis for not meeting your ridiculous, unobtainable beauty standards"

In 2015 Charli Howard posted a fierce message on Facebook after she was dumped by a modeling agency for being too 'big'. Misfit is her new memoir, focused on her experiences of anxiety, along with eating disorders.
I've found it impossible to give this book a star rating. In some ways it is hugely valuable for the teen audience it is targeted at, & in others it is frustrating & even a bit dull/over-edited by a legal tean. The introduction is a great example of how to flag potentially triggering content, really clear and direct, which I think should be standard practice.

I'm happy to answer questions about this one, because I'm not sure how best to describe it!

Have you come across a book you don't know how to rate?
